§ 50-6. C-1 Commercial.

  • (a)

    Description and purpose. The C-1 commercial zone is neighborhood shopping zone, wherein retail business establishments or service establishments supply commodities or perform services to meet the daily needs of the neighborhood. Uses which might be harmful to nearby residents are not permitted in this zone. This specifically excludes wholesale uses, warehouses, automobile repair and sales. This also excludes those uses specifically listed as permitted in C-2. This zone also excludes mobile homes and HUB-code manufactured homes.

    (b)

    Permitted uses. Permitted uses in the C-1 Commercial zone are as follows:

    (1)

    Same as the permitted uses in the R-1 residential zone listed in section 50-5(b).

    (2)

    Abstract title company.

    (3)

    Automatic laundry.

    (4)

    Bakeries with no more than five employees.

    (5)

    Banks and financial institutions.

    (6)

    Beauty shops and barbershops.

    (7)

    Bowling alleys.

    (8)

    Catering business.

    (9)

    Clothing stores.

    (10)

    Dance studio.

    (11)

    Day care centers.

    (12)

    Drive-in eating places and stores.

    (13)

    Drug stores.

    (14)

    Florist shops.

    (15)

    Funeral homes.

    (16)

    Groceries.

    (17)

    Hardware stores, but excluding lumberyards.

    Home for aged, orphans.

    (19)

    Hospitals and clinics.

    (20)

    Hotels and motels.

    (21)

    Libraries, museums.

    (22)

    Membership clubs.

    (23)

    Newspaper and printing shops.

    Nursing homes.

    Offices and office buildings.

    (c)

    Floor space. Floor space shall be a minimum of 800 square feet total.

    (d)

    Minimum parking. Minimum parking shall be one parking space per 100 square feet of building space.

    (e)

    Other provisions. All lighted signs shall be shielded so that the lights do not shine on any adjoining property. All signs must be physically attached to the building or on property owned or leased by the owner of the sign.
