§ 42-1. Purpose; authority; jurisdiction.

  • (a)

    Purpose. It is the purpose of this chapter to provide for the orderly, efficient and economic development of the village by providing for the coordination of streets, highways and other public facilities within proposed subdivisions with existing or planned streets and highways or other public facilities; for the dedication or reservation of rights-of-way, easements, or sites for streets, utilities, open space, recreation areas, and other public facilities; for the protection of historic resources and the natural environment; and for the distribution of population and traffic which shall avoid congestion and overcrowding and which shall create conditions essential to public health, safety and the general welfare.

    (b)

    Authority.

    (1)

    The village does hereby establish and adopt these regulations governing the subdivision or resubdivision of land pursuant to the authority of the village. These standards shall be known and may be cited as "Subdivision Chapter of the Village of Surfside Beach," and will be referred to herein as the "subdivision chapter."

    (2)

    The planning commission of the village, hereinafter called the "commission," shall administer these standards, subject to final approval of the city council. All submissions to the commission shall be made through the office of the city secretary of the village.

    (c)

    Jurisdiction. These regulations shall govern all subdivision or resubdivision of land within the territorial limits of the village.
