§ 2-345. Appointment; removal; qualifications; term of office.

  • (a)

    The city council of the village shall appoint the members and alternate members of the planning commission by a majority vote of the council present and voting at any special or regular meeting of the council.

    (b)

    The council shall, at the meeting in September, in each even-numbered year, or thereafter as soon as practical, appoint four members of the commission to replace those members whose terms have expired or will expire in even numbered years. The council shall, at the meeting in September, in each odd-numbered year, or thereafter as soon as practical, appoint three members of the commission to replace those members whose terms have expired or will expire in odd numbered years, and four alternate members.

    (c)

    Any vacancy on the commission shall be filled at any special or regular meeting of the council of the village by a majority vote of the council, present and voting, at such meeting but such appointment shall be for the unexpired term only. All members of such commission shall serve without compensation. All members of the commission are removable for cause upon written charges and after public hearing by the vote of a majority of the council present and voting at any special or regular meeting of the commission.

    (d)

    Absence from three consecutive meetings, regular or special, unless due to illness will be grounds for removal of the member from a seated or alternate position upon written charges and a public hearing before the city council followed by a majority vote at any special or regular meeting of the city council.
